Seeking the Lost. Be the Difference. | October 3rdOutreach

Sometimes being the difference begins with stopping long enough to listen.

Throughout our outreach, we encounter neighbors carrying their belongings, resting along sidewalks, and finding shelter wherever they can. Each encounter is an opportunity to offer practical help and give someone our attention. A bag of supplies can meet an immediate need. Taking time for a conversation makes room for the person receiving it.

The October photographs capture those simple moments: reaching out a hand, sharing supplies, walking toward someone, and pausing together in prayer. These are the moments we want to keep building through St. Joseph Collaborative.

For me, this work is personal. I know what it is to experience homelessness. I also know that rebuilding a life takes support, patience, and people willing to believe growth is possible. That experience shapes how I approach our neighbors today—with respect for their stories and an understanding that change rarely happens all at once.

God rescued me, and His mercy compels me to serve. I want that gratitude to become action. When we have food to share, time to give, or an opportunity to encourage someone, we have a responsibility to respond.

Seeking the lost also asks something of us. It asks us to leave our comfort, pay attention, and approach people with humility. We cannot assume we understand someone’s life by looking at where they sleep or what they carry. We can introduce ourselves. We can listen. We can ask what would help.

At St. Joseph Collaborative, we want to keep strengthening that kind of presence in San Bernardino. Consistency matters. Our neighbors need dependable care, and dependable care takes preparation: gathering supplies, arranging transportation, welcoming volunteers, and building relationships with people who can help sustain the work.

That is where our community comes in.

A local business can contribute food or bottled water. A family can gather hygiene supplies. A parish group can organize a collection. A volunteer can give time and bring useful skills. A financial supporter can help cover the practical costs of getting resources into the community.

Each contribution helps us prepare for the next outreach and keep moving forward with purpose.

We are grateful to everyone who makes this work possible. Your generosity gives us something tangible to share, and your commitment helps us build for the months ahead.

This October, our invitation is simple: take the gifts God has placed in your hands and put them to work for someone else.

Seek the lost. Show up with love. Be the difference.
